Judy Todd of Portland, Oregon, responds to last month’s dispatch, “A Crazy Quilt.” Her words remind me of what one man said in a Soulcraft workshop we were taking together. We were exploring how the parts of ourselves argue, each trying to prove that they are worthy, worth keeping. His reply to them all: “Everybody Gets to Stay!” –– Editor
After reading “A Crazy Quilt,” I pondered a bit. Your story brought to mind my own experience in wanting “to jettison, never to see it again” [the side of me I rather not own.]
[This side] I think is the younger self, the one who reacted to her life and situation at an early age … maybe as cover or protection, confusion or fear. That’s been my experience. And, when I took her into my arms, and into my heart, and made promises to her of love and protection, of partnership and gratitude …. well, everything changed.
Many tears, laughter, and words written later, she sits with me now as I share “Our Story” in hopes it is uplifting! –– JT
